About us

The Neues Kreuzberg Museum (NKM) is a pioneering institution that merges the digital and physical realms to preserve and exhibit audiovisual artefacts related to Berlin's rich history.

Our core mission explores pivotal questions, such as how societies and individuals should navigate the vast array of historical works and documents. We also examine the optimal organizational frameworks and sustainable business models for a collaborative, long-term effort in historical preservation. Furthermore, we investigate the potential of blockchain technology in authenticating and verifying the provenance of artistic and historical imagery.

Purpose of the NKM

  • Preserving and sharing memories, artefacts, and artworks related to Berlin's cultural heritage.

  • Fostering collaboration between artists, curators, and collectors.

  • Collecting and securing audiovisual data, while registering authorship rights.

  • Enhancing artefacts with community-driven metadata, annotations, and ratings.

  • Producing hybrid exhibitions that enable co-curation.

  • Recording authentic history immutably for future generations.

Future Goals

  • Provide a secure platform for the storage, preservation, study, and annotation of digital artefacts.

  • Introducing a novel approach to securing ownership and authenticity of audiovisual works.

  • A global platform for photographers, artists, and researchers, facilitating collaboration in the creation and preservation of historical records.

At its heart, NKM seeks to empower individuals and communities to actively engage with history, developing innovative methods to achieve this. To further these goals, NKM will launch as a series of educational events, host monthly meetups, and maintain an informative blog to engage a wider audience.
